NALC Devotions – November 29, 2017

Obadiah 15-211 Peter 2:1-10Matthew 19:23-30

I have sometimes been accused of using Jesus as a crutch. I admit I have definitely learned to lean on him. He is the rock on which I depend for my life and for my salvation. I also admit that I slip off of that rock more than I should. But, thanks be to God, even when I slip and fall, Jesus is there to catch me. He is there to lead me out of the wilderness.

Anyone who accuses someone of using Jesus as a crutch is probably not aware of what it really means to lean on him or to follow him. Following Jesus is not as easy as some would suppose. It means that some of the things that are the most important to this world and to us must be removed from our lives. No matter how much we want something or someone, Jesus must come first.

As this begins to happen, with the help of God, when our egos and personal, worldly desires are moved to last place, then we will find ourselves where we truly belong: living in God’s presence in his kingdom.

Prayer: God, help us all to take our stand on the rock of our salvation, who is Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Today’s devotion was written by Judy Mattson, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Bunnell, FL.
