I knew a wealthy fellow in a church I served, who accumulated just about all he desired for his personal enjoyment. Nevertheless, he continued buying more and more things. He found himself using up almost all of his spare time cleaning, polishing, repairing, and acquiring more stuff. It interfered with many of his relationships, including his time with the Lord. He eventually drifted from his church — attending to all of his “stuff.” He let go of his relationship with his Savior out of a preference for inanimate objects that would never afford him the abundant life assurances of our glorious Lord.
In Jesus Christ we find the one who seeks to make our joy complete and provides solace from the endless disappointments of this world. Jesus Christ alone offers us the forgiveness, healing, rest, peace, and joy that we desire. Jesus calls each one of us into his ministry and to let go of all the stuff of this world. And he promises that you will receive “a hundredfold” more, not only in this age, but in the eternal age to come. There is no greater joy to invest in than Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to let go of all the interfering stuff of this world and to build up our treasures in your eternal kingdom. Amen.
